Dex @ 90
How IT ALL began
The launch of The Dexter Gordon Society was initiated with the 90th Anniversary of Dexter Gordon's birth, celebrated at Jazz at Lincoln Center on February 27th, 2013. The annual series launched by this event was entitled Dex@90, which included public scholarly talks, film screenings, listening sessions, tribute concerts, discussion panels, and other commemorative programming.
The Dexter Gordon Society was established in large part to institute these various activities which had persisted in Gordon’s honor for at least two and a half decades prior to its formation. The success of this year-long celebration led us to repeat the project in 2014 with a similar project entitled Dex@91.
The series commenced in 2015 with Dex@92 during which time NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio issued a Mayoral Proclamation on behalf of The Dexter Gordon Society and Dexter Gordon's 92nd birthday celebration at Jazz at Lincoln Center.
